Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
